PA System

PA System or Public Address System (sometimes known as a sound reinforcement system) is the common term for a larger scale background music system where prominent announcements would need to be made in addition to playing background/foreground music over the system.  Generally a PA System would be used in airports, school halls, auditoriums, churches (house of worship), bars and hospitality venues.

Most basic public address systems (PA systems) would include microphones, speakers, a mixer and an amplifier.  As with any background music system, a PA system needs to be designed with the user experience in mind.  In an airport application for example, the public address component would need to provide clear speech intelligibility to enable passengers to hear their flight announcements, whilst having the flexibility to play music over the system.  Whereas in a school hall / auditorium application, the system would need to be flexible enough to provide clear speech intelligibility and full range capability for live performances.  In addition, a public address system may be used for emergency information, providing a simple way to get information out quickly.

Whilst the title of PA system is very broad, a PA system can vary from a simple set up which may be found in schools or offices, to a large scale PA system to cater for concerts and theatre productions.
